New Business Acceleration Team (NBAT) assists individuals and groups opening food and beverage establishments by navigating City agency processes and reducing the time needed to open. NBAT provides client management services, an accelerated plan review process, and coordination of necessary inspections by regulatory agencies.
Before you may begin filing for licenses or permits, you will need:
- Employee Identification Number
- Applicable Business Certificate based on your business’s legal structure
- Unemployment Insurance
- Workers’ Compensation or proof of exemption
- Employee Disability Coverage
- Certificate of Authority to collect sales tax
In order to begin operating your business, you will need to obtain the following:
- Food Protection Certificate $114
- Food Service Establishment Permit $280
- Boiler Requirements
- Elevator Application
- Elevator Building Notice
- Permit to store fuel oil (must fax a request for this permit to the Fire Department District Office Headquarters)
- Accepting electronic signatures
- Air Facility Registration
The following will require licensed professionals:
- Application for Approval of backflow prevention devices (must be submitted by a professional engineer or a registered architect to NYC Department of Environmental Protection DEP)
- Work Permit and Certificate to Operate
- Gas Authorization
- Grease Interceptor
- Certificate of Occupancy (registered architect or professional engineer)
- Range hoods installation
