With financing for start-ups the question that frequently arises is; what came first, the chicken or the egg? Start-ups require funds to start while financial institutions require start-ups to show business activity before offering a loan. One organization that has been offering a solution is Kiva Zip (https://zip.kiva.org/borrow). They've created a crowdfunding loan solution for fresh new businesses with passion that need $10,000 or less in order to ignite their entrepreneurial dreams. Want to meet them? Here is your chance!

Please RSVP by Friday 5/29 so that we may adequately prepare light refreshments for the occasion.

Also, we're allowing the first few respondents to reserve a 15 minute time slot to speak with a Kiva Zip representative. To reserve a dedicated time slot, call Sante Antonelli at 718-263-0546.

Learn QuickBooks

When: June 16, 2015
Where: The Entrepreneur Space, 36-46 37th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101
Time: 5:45pm to 8:45pm
Cost: Free

This 2-day class (6/16 and 6/23) QuickBooks course aims to provide the technical know-how for people looking to learn how to use this program effectively.

Please note this class is for QuickBooks Online. While it has the same functions as the desktop version, the interface is very different. This class will not teach you how to use the desktop version of QuickBooks.

In this class you will:

Work hands-on with QuickBooks Online Plus. In order to take this class, please bring a laptop after registering for QuickBooks Online Plus, which can be found here. The subscription is free for the first 30 days. If you do not bring a laptop with your QuickBooks Online account login information, you will be unable to take the class.

Please note that this class fills up extremely quickly. If it is full, please add your name to the waiting list.

Why take a class on Quickbooks?

- Because your receipts fade and storage of your data is difficult without it. (You can link transactions and make things much easier if you are ever audited).
- Quickbooks helps you create analytic reports you can use to make better business decisions and keep your bookkeeping tight.
- Because MS Excel is not made for bookkeeping! You lose out on power information created by QB reports.
- Save money come tax time. Save between 5 hours/month of manual entry and over $4,200 a year come tax time by using QuickBooks.*
- Manual entries and bank statement importation can create lost transactions and no reconciliation.

*Based on normal retainer fee paid for bookkeeping.

This class is part of the NYC Small Business Tech Coalition, funded by the NYCSBS and Citi Community Development.
