The workshop focuses on helping participants to develop their business idea, organize their start-up processes and create a strategy to launch their business. It also covers key elements of business start-up process including financing, registering the business, licenses and permits and tax related issues to help entrepreneurs properly set up their company and avoid missteps that can cost them time and money. |
This orientation session is meant to provide more information on the 7th Annual Queens StartUP! Business Plan Competition Program and answer any questions people may have.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Must be Queens Resident (NYS ID and Proof must be provided)
- Must want to own, operate, and manage the business autonomously
- Must register and operate the business in Queens County.
- Must be considered a start-up (having made less than $20,000 in Revenue)
- Queens College Students have the opportunity to compete for a $5,000 student award.
Other requirements regarding being up-to-date with taxes, management team, and structure will also be disclosed.

If so, enroll in the Queens Economic Development Corporation's 60-hour business training course to learn tools that will pave the way for business success.
The Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP) offers training and one-on-one consultation to help clients successfully conceptualize and prepare a professional business plan, learn about legal structures, business taxes, how to apply for alternative business financing, as well as how to best position your business for success. The class is designed for both the budding and established business owner who operates any type of business – from modest home-based operation to a sophisticated enterprises.

Course fee is $350 with $50 refunded to all participants who successfully complete the course (with minimal absences) and submits a business plan.
Instructor:
Derrick Webster is a result-driven entrepreneur whose professional background includes being a Senior Consultant at Vanguarde Consulting Group and an adjunct instructor at SUNY Levin Institute. He specializes in areas of business development, strategic planning, and digital marketing which eventually garnered him (2) Congressional Awards for Pioneering Technology within Urban Communities. His expertise extends even further through different projects raising several million dollars in both public and private funding for a local nonprofit.
